Is a glaze just a paint?
The glaze plays an important role in the production of ceramics. Beyond giving the piece a finished and colored look, glazes actually protect the clay from abrasives and makes the finished piece sanitary and washable by eliminating a porous surface.
Are unglazed ceramics available?
Many non-food items meant for decoration may come unglazed. This is usually found in older ceramic dolls and such.
Where do glazes come from?
Nancy gets all of her glazes from Spectrum. They provide high quality glazes that are lead-free and are microwave and dishwasher safe.
